Browning Hi-Power collectors! Here’s a tough one to locate. This is a Belgian made/Belgian engraved “D-DAY COMMEMORATIVE” that was manufactured to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Allied landing at Normandy. The D-Day landing would eventually free Belgium and the rest of occupied Europe from the Nazis during WWII. There were just 150 of these produced, this one signed by FN engraver Edouard Vos. There is intricate floral scroll engraving on both sides of the frame and slide. The left side of the slide has gold lettering which reads “NORMANDY JUNE 6, 1944″; the right side is marked “D-DAY COMMEMORATIVE”, also in gold. The left side of the frame is engraved Made in Belgium. The top of the slide features more scroll engraving as well as the gold bust of Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander. Above this is a grouping of flags representing those nations involved in the D-Day landing. The trigger, hammer, safeties, slide stop, rear sight button, magazine release, and grip screws are all gold plated. The grips are bordered smooth walnut stocks. These also received special serial numbers. Chambered for the 9mm Parabellum, this is a variation of the desirable “Capitan” model and it features the adjustable 500-meter tangent style rear sight with front sight dovetailed to the slide. Being of later production, it also features the improved elongated ambidextrous safety levers. Condition is excellent and the pistol is new in every way, never fired and free of handling marks, storage issues, or other detractors. It comes in the original factory box with a Browning letter of authenticity, FN factory certificate, owner’s manuals, two 13-round magazines, and cleaning rod. Note: the Norma ammunition box is empty (no cartridges) and is for display as it fills a slot in the case.
A beautiful handgun that is seldom available for sale!
